First look at The Lion King prequel Mufasa with songs by Lin-Manuel Miranda
Disney has unveiled a first trailer for its new musical movie Mufasa: The Lion King.
Promising to deliver an epic narrative of the legendary lion’s origins, the film is set to be released on December 20, 2024.
The film takes us on a journey back in time with Rafiki narrating the tale to Kiara, the young daughter of Simba and Nala.
With the comedic duo Timon and Pumbaa back in action, the story unfolds through poignant flashbacks. We meet Mufasa as an orphaned cub who, upon encountering the noble lion prince Taka, finds a new path that intertwines with an eclectic group of misfits. Together, they navigate a world filled with dangers, testing their bonds and seeking their destinies.
Director Barry Jenkins brings together a stellar cast to breathe life into this beloved saga.
- Aaron Pierre voices the young Mufasa, giving us a fresh take on the iconic character.
- Kelvin Harrison Jr. takes on the role of Taka, the lion prince destined for greatness who embraces Mufasa as a brother.
- Other notable voices include Tiffany Boone as Sarabi, Mads Mikkelsen as the antagonistic Kiros, and the talents of Thandiwe Newton, Lennie James, and Anika Noni Rose as Taka’s family.
- The star-studded cast also sees John Kani returning as Rafiki, with Seth Rogen and Billy Eichner reprising their roles as Pumbaa and Timon, respectively.
- Donald Glover and Beyoncé Knowles-Carter return as Simba and Nala, alongside newcomer Blue Ivy Carter voicing Kiara.
The movie will feature brand new songs from Lin-Manuel Miranda, collaborating with Mark Mancina and Lebo M to produce what is set to be a thrilling score, continuing the musical legacy of “The Lion King.”
