Staged series 3 release date on BBC as David Tennant and Michael Sheen return

David Tennant and Michael Sheen are back for a third series of Staged, coming soon to BBC One

The show originally launched in 2020 during the pandemic. It featured the cast of a play who were furloughed when their upcoming West End production was suddenly brought to a halt by the lockdown.

A second series followed in 2021 before a third outing, together with a one-off special, made its debut last year on streaming platform BritBox.

It’s now been announced that Staged series three will come to BBC One and iPlayer from Wednesday, 14 June at 10:40PM.

For now, the series is available on BritBox.

Alongside Tennant and Sheen, Georgia Tennant and Anna Lundberg will return to the cast.

A teaser for the new series shares: “Things have returned to normal for David and Michael. They have moved on from lockdown and returned to their everyday working life, while Simon’s career remains stagnant. His phone does ring, but only to ask if he can get David and Michael back together; and they’ve made it clear they want nothing more to do with him.

“But Christmas is approaching, and Simon hopes the warmth of the season might soften them to the idea of a radio version of a Christmas classic…but that’s as far as Simon’s plan has got!”

Meanwhile the one-off special will feature mistakes and outtakes as well as a behind the scenes look at how the show was produced at the most unique of times.
