George Takei to star in Allegiance musical’s UK premiere at Charing Cross Theatre

George Takei is to star in the UK premiere of Broadway musical Allegiance.

A new production will run at Charing Cross Theatre in 2023 running from 7 January to 8 April. Tickets are on sale now

Inspired by Takei’s own experiences, the musical has a book by Marc Acito and Jay Kuo with Kuo also providing the music and lyrics.

Telly Leung (Broadway’s Aladdin, Glee) will join Takei on the cast with Aynrand Ferrer, Iroy Abesamis, Mark Anderson, Masashi Fujimoto, Megan Gardiner, Raiko Gohara, Eu Jin Hwang, Hana Ichijo, Misa Koide, Patrick Munday, Rachel Jayne Picar, Sario Solomon, Joy Tan and Iverson Yabut.

Californian born Takei and his family were placed behind barbed-wired enclosures of United States internment camps along with 120,000 other Japanese Americans. He spent years of his childhood at camp Rohwer in the swamps of Arkansas and at wind-swept Camp Tule in northern California.

This real life experience has inspired this award winning musical, reinterpreted for the more intimate setting of our Mainstage.
