Josh Gad and Andrew Rannells to star in Gutenberg! The Musical! on Broadway

Book of Mormon co-stars Josh Gad and Andrew Rannells are to reunite on Broadway.

The pair will appear in a brand new production of Gutenberg! The Musical!.

Written by Beetlejuice‘s Scott Brown and Anthony King, the meta-musical follows two composers attempting to stage a show about the life of Johannes Gutenberg, who brought the printing press to Europe.

Gutenberg! first premiered in 2005 at the New York Musical Theatre Festival before a year-long run off Broadway.

The show’s Broadway bow is scheduled for 12 October 2023, with previews from 15 September, at the James Earl Jones Theatre. The limited run will end on 28 January 2024.

In this two-man musical spoof, a pair of aspiring playwrights perform a backers’ audition for their new project – a big, splashy musical about printing press inventor Johann Gutenberg.

With an unending supply of enthusiasm, Bud and Doug sing all the songs and play all the parts in their crass historical epic, with the hope that one of the producers in attendance will give them a Broadway contract – fulfilling their ill-advised dreams.

Beetlejuice and Moulin Rouge!‘s Alex Timbers directs the production which has scenic design by Scott Pask, costume design by Emily Rebholz, lighting design by Jeff Croiter and sound design by Cody Spencer & M.L. Dogg.
