The boy’s name was Hansel. The girl’s name was Gretel.

In the rubble of their war-torn village, the woodcutting dad and the breadmaking mum decide that the only chance they have to give their children a safer life is to lead them – and leave them – in the woods. Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre has teamed up with the renowned Great British Bake Off finalist, Steven Carter-Bailey, who has crafted an edible Globe Theatre reminiscent of the infamous gingerbread house from The Brothers Grimm’s Hansel and Gretel.
To complement this festive event, two interactive workshops designed for young participants and their accompanying adults will be available at the Globe. The Hansel and Gretel Drama and Music Workshop, tailored for 5–8-year-olds, will delve into The Brothers Grimm fairy tale, exploring its story, characters, and music through engaging activities led by a Globe practitioner.
For children aged 9-12, the Hansel and Gretel Spoken Word and Drama Workshop will encourage creativity through a fusion of creative writing and performance, immersing participants in the magical woodland world.
