The Lion King cast in London’s West End revealed

The Lion King is playing London’s West End at the Lyceum Theatre – here’s who’s on the cast!

Based on the all-time classic animated film, The Lion King is set against the majesty of the Serengeti Plains to the evocative rhythms of Africa.

Exploding with glorious colours, stunning effects and enchanting music, it tells the timeless story of Simba and his epic journey to fulfil his destiny as King of the Pridelands.

Director Julie Taymor made Broadway history by becoming the first woman to win the Tony Award for Best Director of a Musical for her work on the production, which features music by Elton John, Tim Rice and Lebo M.

The Lion King West End cast

Owen Chaponda takes on the role of Simba with Merryl Ansah as Nala.

Joining them are Rhiane Drummond as Shenzi, Jorell Coiffic-Kamall as Banzai, George Asprey as Scar, Shaun Escoffery as Mufasa, Gary Jordan as Zazu, Jamie McGregor as Timon, Thenjiwe Thendiva Nofemele as Rafiki, Mark Roper as Pumbaa and Mark Tatham as Ed.

Completing the adult cast are Etian A Almeida, Gibsa Bah, Lwando Bam, Shaquille Brush, Stedroy Cabey, Nikki Cheung, Donna Clovis, Kat Collings, Azola Dlamini, Darius Drooh, Kuan Frye, Sandile Gontsana, Candice Holdford, Marlee Jay, Garry Lake, Tramaine Lamy, Tomas Larraguivel, Jane Carla Leynes, Francisco Lins, Stephanie Lo, Gennaro Maffettone, Lanya Matthews, Scott Maurice, Sadia McEwen, Daniel Mejia, Sipho Mlombile, Keitumetse Molea, Ntethelelo Nhlapo, Nosipho Nkonqa, Phindile Nyandeni, Aphiwe Nyezi, Peace Nzirawa, Poseletso Sejosingoe-Mandela, Luciano Santos Souza, Dillan Hope Suttle, Gesztenye Taiwo, Barnaby Thompson, Francesca Thompson and Christina Walters.

The standard performance schedule is Tuesday to Saturday at 7:30PM with Wednesday, Saturday & Sunday matinees at 2:30PM.

The Lion King opened in London in October 1999, two years after the original Broadway production, and has been seen by over 95 million people across the world.

Alongside the West End production, a new tour will take place across the UK in 2023 and 2024.
