Yellow Women Collective brings The Yellow Traffic Light to VAULT Festival 2023

Yellow Women Collective are to bring Isabella Sperotto’s The Yellow Traffic Light to VAULT Festival 2023

The solo show will run at VAULT Festival’s Studio space from 12 – 26 February.

As well as writing, Isabella Sperotto stars in the production which is directed by Catharina Conte.

The Yellow Traffic Light is a thought-provoking dark-comedy inspired by the story of Brazilian writer and performer Isabella Sperotto, her family and the rise of the far-right in Brazil.

Navigating through radio novels, character-comedy, music and physical theatre, this witty solo-show gives life and voice to a whole family on stage.

Speaking about creating the show, Isabella shared: “When my south Brazil city was demolished in an unusual accident, this was the propelling event to write about my annoyances and frustrations with close relatives who were supporting fascist ideas.

“As I couldn’t afford a cast with nine actors, I decided to give myself the challenge of offering my body to all of these insane characters.”

Director Catharina Conte added: “Directing is to create a space where things can happen. Through a collaborative process, that merged video, music, movement & lights, we understood we would have to tell this story from a Latinx point of view, both aesthetically & dramaturgically.

“I believe that theatre in Brazil is quite physical, and this physicality is embraced into our staging & acting, as Latinx creators. We propose to shed light on our way of telling stories, showing that Latinx, neurodiverse & female voices matter, especially when all of those boxes inhabit the same body.”
