Dolly Parton reveals plans for a musical based on her life – and Kristin Chenoweth could star

Dolly Parton has revealed plans for a potential Broadway musical based on her life.

The legendary singer-songwriter, actress and Tony Award nominee already has someone in mind to bring her story to life on stage, saying Wicked icon Kristin Chenoweth was the “ideal person” to star as her.

Speaking on Mr. Nashville Talks with Larry Ferguson, Parton explained work on the biopic musical had been in the works for sometime before the pandemic halted plans.

It now may be seen on screen before it makes it to Great White Way, with Parton sharing: “I’ve been talking about doing my Broadway musical and we were really, really way out ahead of that, and then COVID hit and that changed my mind about a whole lot of things.

“I do intend someday to be on Broadway, but I’m thinking now that I might do my life story as a feature… Maybe possibly even a musical feature, so we’re in talks about that.”

On who she’d like to see play herself in any potential stage show or movie, Parton added: “I love Kristin Chenoweth. She’s just absolutely fantastic. Years and years ago, when I was going to do the Broadway musical—I never can get it how I want it, but I’m still working on it. But I thought she’d be an ideal person to do that.”

It turns out that Chenoweth is very much up for the role having previously showed off her impeccable Dolly Parton impression on The Kelly Clarkson Show last year.

Speaking about playing Parton in a biopic, Chenoweth enthused: “Dolly where’s the camera, hurry up, I’m ready!”

For now, watch this space!
