Amy Adams to make West End debut in The Glass Menagerie revival
Amy Adams is to make her West End debut in a new revival of The Glass Menagerie in 2022.
A new production of Tennessee Williams’ piece is to run at London’s Duke of York theatre from 23 May 2022. Tickets are on sale now here.
Academy Award-nominated actress Amy Adams will star as Amanda Wingfield with Jeremy Herrin directing.
Adams said: “I am so honoured and excited to be a part of bringing The Glass Menagerie to the stage in the West End! I have always felt a strong pull towards the work of Tennessee Williams and to this deeply personal story.
“I am so grateful to be working with the brilliant Jeremy Herrin and with all of the talented cast and creative team. I look forward to the shared experience of theatre. See you in 2022!”

Joining Adams on the cast are Paul Hilton and Tom Glynn-Carney, who will play the role of Amanda’s son Tom at different stages in his life. Completing the company are Lizzie Annis and Victor Alli.
Amanda Wingfield is a faded, tragic remnant of Southern gentility who lives in poverty in a dingy St. Louis apartment with her son, Tom, and her daughter, Laura. Amanda strives to give meaning and direction to her life and the lives of her children, though her methods are ineffective and irritating.
Tom is driven nearly to distraction by his mother’s nagging and seeks escape in alcohol and the world of the movies. Laura also lives in her illusions. She is crippled, and this defect, intensified by her mother’s anxiety to see her married, has driven her more and more into herself. The crux of the action comes when Tom invites a young man of his acquaintance to take dinner with the family.
The piece features design by Vicki Mortimer with lighting by Paule Constable and video design by Ash J Woodward.
The piece first opened on Broadway in 1945 with a 2014 revival picking up seven Tony Award nominations. In the UK the show previously ran at the Duke Of York’s Theatre in 2017.
