Annaleigh Ashford and Josh Groban to star in Sweeney Todd revival on Broadway

Annaleigh Ashford and Josh Groban are confirmed to star in a new Broadway revival of Sweeney Todd.

With music by Stephen Sondheim and a book by Hugh Wheeler, the production will begin previews at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre from 26 February with an official opening on 26 March.

Alongside Ashford and Groban as Sweeney and Mrs. Lovett, further casting includes Jordan Fisher as Anthony, Gaten Matarazzo as Tobias, Ruthie Ann Miles as Beggar Woman, Maria Bilbao as Johanna, Jamie Jackson as Judge Turpin, John Rapson as Beadle Bamford, Nicholas Christopher as Pirelli / Standby for Sweeney Todd and Jeanna de Waal as Standby for Mrs Lovett and Beggar Woman.

Making up the ensemble are Galyana Castillo, Jonathan Christopher, Dwayne Cooper, Kyrie Courter, Taeler Cyrus, Timothy Hughes, Paul-Jordan Jansen, Alicia Kaori, Michael Kuhn, Raymond J. Lee, Patricia Phillips, Mia Pinero, Samantha Pollino, Lexi Rabadi, Nathan Salstone, Kristie Dale Sanders, Stephen Tewksbury, Daniel Torres, Felix Torrez-Ponce, DeLaney Westfall and Hennessy Winkler.

The revival will be directed by Thomas Kail with choreography by Steven Hoggett, music supervision from Alex Lacamoire, original orchestrations by Jonathan Tunick, set design by Mimi Lien, costumes by Emilio Sosa, lighting by Natasha Katz and sound design by Nevin Steinberg.

The iconic music is based on the 1970 play by Christopher Bond, retelling the the Victorian tale of a Fleet Strete barber who murders his customers and his wife who bakes their flesh into pies.
