Broadway’s new revival of The Wiz is getting a cast recording released July 12, 2024 via Immersive/Interscope Records.
The Wiz, with music by Charlie Smalls and script by William F. Brown, made its Broadway debut in 1975, reimagining L. Frank Baum’s beloved children’s novel into an all-Black “super soul musical,” as originally promoted.
The musical transitioned to film in 1978 with a cast that included Diana Ross, Lena Horne, Richard Pryor, Michael Jackson and Ted Ross. The latest revival includes new contributions from 2023 Tony Award nominee Amber Ruffin.
