New musical The Drifters Girl in West End to star Beverley Knight

Beverley Knight is to star in new musical The Drifters Girl in London’s West End.

The musical is based on the iconic music of American vocal group The Drifters.

The Drifters Girl will premiere at the Newcastle Theatre Royal on October 9 2021 before running at the Garrick Theatre from November 4. Tickets For the West End run are on sale now.

Beverley Knight will play Faye Treadwell, manager of The Drifters who, together with her husband George Treadwell, turned the group into a global phenomenon.

Joining her will be Tosh Wanogho-Maud (Ben E King), Tarinn Callender (Johnny Moore), Adam J Bernard (George Treadwell) and Matt Henry (Clyde McPhatter).

The production will include hit songs from The Drifters’ back catalogue such as Save the Last Dance for Me, Under the Boardwalk, Kissin’ in the Back Row of the Movies, Stand by Me, Come on Over to My Place and Saturday Night at the Movies.

The Drifters Girl will premiere at the Theatre Royal Newcastle from 9 through to 23 October before transferring to London’s West End at the Garrick Theatre from November 4 for a limited 20-week run.

The creative team will be led by director Jonathan Church with a book by Ed Curtis and design by Anthony Ward.

The show will feature choreography by Karen Bruce, lighting design by Ben Cracknell and music supervision and orchestrations by Chris Egan.
