Britney Spears musical Once Upon a One More Time set for world premiere
A new jukebox musical based on the songs of Britney Spears will hold its world premiere in Washington, DC.
The Once Upon a One More Time musical offers up a spin on the characters from Brothers Grimm’s fairytales.
A synopsis teases: “Once Upon A Time… a group of famous fairy tale princesses gather for their fortnightly book club, to read together from – well, the only book they’ve ever known – Grimm’s Fairy Tales.
“When Cinderella makes a desperate wish for a new story, a rogue fairy godmother drops The Feminine Mystique in her corseted lap. Oh baby, baby… could there really be more to life than bridesmaid dresses, friendships with woodland creatures, and dreams of a prince’s kiss?”
The musical will begin performances on at Shakespeare Theatre Company in Washington, DC in November 2021 with a Broadway transfer expected.
The show had originally been due to run in Chicago 2020 priror the pandemic.
Briga Heelan and Justin Guarini were to lead the cast as Cinderella and Prince Charming respectively.
They’ll be joined by Emily Skinner as Stepmother, Brooke Dillman as The O.F.G (Original Fairy Godmother), and Aisha Jackson as Snow White, with Mimi Scardulla and Tess Soltau, Stepsisters Belinda and Betany and Simon Callow as the Narrator.
Completing the company are Ashley Chiu, Raymond J Lee, Wonu Ogunfowora, Ryan Steele, Allie Trimm, Morgan Weed, Matt Allen, Belinda Allyn, Viva Boresi, Stephen Brower, Jennifer Florentino, Selene Haro, Joshua Daniel Johnson, Amy Hillner Larsen, Korinne Tetlow, Salisha Thomas, Matthew Tiberi, Josh Tolle, Kevin Trinio Perdido, and Diana Marie Vaden.
The musical will feature Britney Spears’ hit songs including “Stronger”, “Oops I Did It Again”, “Lucky”, “Circus” and “Toxic”.
