Cast announced for world premiere of new musical The Fabulist

The Fabulist cast headshots

Prepare for a magical experience as the world premiere of The Fabulist graces the stage at Charing Cross Theatre from 12 August to 21 September.

Directed by John Walton, this new musical comedy intertwines the hazards of love, the wonder of magic, and the mysteries of the universe.

The music, composed by Giovanni Paisiello, known for his vibrant operettas, blends seamlessly with a new libretto by James P. Farwell. The Fabulist, based on Paisiello’s opera The Imaginary Astrologer, combines classic and modern elements to tell a tale of romance and self-discovery.

Set in Italy, 1929, The Fabulist follows Julian, an illusionist-extraordinaire and outlawed heretic, as he flees from Mussolini and the Catholic Church. When he stumbles upon a film shoot, he dazzles screenwriter Clarice with his magical skills and easygoing charm. But with the regime closing in, trust and deception become dangerously intertwined.

Those making up the cast of the premiere are Dan Smith as Julian, James Paterson as Count Petronius, Stuart Pendred as Cardinal Bandini, Constantine Andronikou as Puppupini, Réka Jónás as Clarice, Lily De La Haye as Cassandra, Jack Holton as alternate Julian and Marienella Phillips as alternate Cassandra and Clarice

The production is directed by John Walton with musical director and orchestrator Bobby Goulder, movement director Sean Kempton, set and costume designer David Shields, lighting designer Fridthjofur Thorsteinsson, sound designer Andrew Johnson, magic consultant Harry De Cruz, casting director Debbie O’Brien, and producer Steven Levy for Charing Cross Theatre Productions.
