Cats movie: Full cast and UK release date for 2019 film adaption

Here’s all we know about the 2019 Cats film so far, from the cast to UK release date.

Since its world premiere in 1981, the musical Cats has become a worldwide hit with productions in over 30 countries seen by more than 70 million people.

With a score composed by the legendary Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber, based on T.S. Eliot’s Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats, the musical tells the tale of a group of so-called Jellicle cats deciding who will ascend to the Heaviside Layer.

Featuring songs such as ‘Memory’, the cats each tell their stories at the Jellicle ball before one is chosen to be reborn into a whole new Jellicle life.

Now a film adaption is on its way, due for release at the end of 2019….

Cats movie cast

An all star cast of names have already been confirmed for the 2019 Cats movie.

They include Taylor Swift as Bombalurina, Ian McKellen as Gus the Theatre Cat, James Jordan as Bustopher Jones and Jennifer Hudson as Grizabella.

Joining them are Rebel Wilson as Jennyanydots, Idris Elba as Macavity, Judi Dench as Old Deuteronomy, Jason Derulo as Rum Tum Tugge and Ray Winstone as Growltiger

Further confirmed casting includes West End star Zizi Strallen as Tantomile and Royal Ballet principal dancers Francesca Hayward and Steven McRae as Victoria and Skimbleshanks respectively.

The movie will be directed by Tom Hooper, who previously directed the Les Mis film adaption, with screenplay by Hooper together with Lee Hall.

In addition, the film will feature choreography from Andy Blankenbuehler, who previously choreographed the 2016 Broadway revival.

Cats movie UK release date

The film is currently scheduled for release on December 20, 2019, by Universal Pictures.

Production company Working Title announced on April 2 that filming had wrapped up.
