Cheryl on her West End debut and corpsing on stage with Jake Wood

Cheryl has discussed making her West End debut in 2:22 A Ghost Story.

The singer is currently starring in Danny Robins’ supernatural thriller at The Lyric Theatre.

Speaking to Scarlette Douglas backstage for ITV’s Lorraine, Cheryl revealed how when she first came to see the play – before agreeing to take part in it – there was a “weird familiarity”.

She continued: “And I wonder if that’s because the writer is a Geordie?… I could feel it would be a right fit. I mean, there’s lots of swearing and shouting!… But no, it just felt fun.”

Cheryl also shared how Eastenders and co-star Jake Wood made her corpse on stage and how she was then reprimanded by the Director, despite not knowing what ‘corpse’ meant. She explained how she was told by the director: “You get one of those!”

And Cheryl also talked about the Girls Aloud stars coming to see her in the play.

She said: “That, I don’t like. It’s an emotional thing. Because we’ve had so many emotional moments together, I know how they’ll be feeling and thinking, and before a show I can’t handle the emotion of them being proud and of them being like, ‘I know you’re going to be…’ I don’t want to hear from them until after the show.”
