Company revival to close on Broadway in July

The Broadway revival of Company is to close in July, it’s been announced.

Marianne Elliott’s gender-swapped production, which transferred from the West End, will play its final performance at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre on 31 July.

The show had originally started previews in March 2020 but was forced to close just days later due to the pandemic. The production eventually opened in December 2021.

Following its closure in New York the show will embark on a North American tour from 2023.

Producer Chris Harper said: “It remains the honour of a lifetime to bring Stephen Sondheim and George Furth’s masterpiece to Broadway in Marianne Elliott’s Tony Award-winning reimagined production.

“It is a testament to the dedication of everyone who works on the production that we have withstood all the challenges that Broadway has faced over the last two years to share this show with our amazing audiences.

“We have six more weeks of performances to celebrate our astonishing cast, orchestra, and crew at the Jacobs Theatre, and we are delighted to be planning a touring production to bring Company to audiences across North America soon.”

The news comes less than two weeks since the 2022 Tony Awards where Company was the most awarded musical of the night. The production took home awards for Best Revival, Featured Actress (Patti LuPone), Featured Actor (Matt Doyle), Best Direction and Best Scene Design (Bunny Christie).

The current company is led by Katrina Lenk as Bobbie. Alongside Doyle and LuPone, Lenk is joined by Christopher Fitzgerald, Christopher Sieber, Jennifer Simard, Terence Archie, Etai Benson, Bobby Conte, Nikki Renée Daniels, Claybourne Elder, Greg Hildreth, Manu Narayan and Rashidra Scott.
