Cruel Intentions musical to make UK debut at Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2019
A Cruel Intentions musical will make its UK debut this year at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
A stage adaption of the hit 90s musical is currently on a US tour following productions in both LA and Off-Broadway in New York.
Cruel Intentions: The 90s Musical will run at the Palais du Variété Spiegeltent at Assembly George Square Gardens August 1 – August 25. Tickets will go on sale on Thursday, April 18 at 10AM.
Based on the 1999 film starring Sarah Michelle Gellar, Ryan Phillippe, Reese Witherspoon, and Selma Blair, the Cruel Intentions musical tells the story of two diabolical step-siblings who target an innocent girl.
The jukebox musical features hit songs from the 90s including Iris by Goo Goo Dolls, Genie In A Bottle by Christina Aguilera, Torn by Natalie Imbruglia, Bye Bye Bye by *NSYNC and No Scrubs by TLC.
The musical has a book by Roger Kumble, Lindsey Rosin and Jordan Ross. The Edinburgh Festival Fringe production will feature direction from Jonathan O’Boyle and choreography from Gary Lloyd.
Original film director Roger Kumble said: “Never in my darkest fantasies would I believe 20 years later, my movie about a pair of hedonistic Manhattan step-siblings would turn into a musical.
“An amazing musical that even people who hate musicals would love, complete with a soundtrack loaded with the greatest 90s guilty pleasure songs.”
An Off-Broadway cast recording is available now, featuring Lauren Zakrin, Constantine Rousouli, Carrie St. Louis, Jessie Shelton and Alex Boniello.
