First look photos from new musical Lady Chatterley’s Lover ahead of West End premiere
First look production photos have been released of new musical Lady Chatterley’s Lover.
The new stage version of D.H. Lawrence’s infamous literary classic will hold its world premiere in the West End this month.
The piece will play at the Shaftesbury Theatre for a limited run between 18 and 19 June 2021 with tickets on sale here.
The production will be filmed for streamed performances to follow later in the year.
A synopsis shares: “The impassioned tale of female agency and Lady Chatterley’s pursuit of a life more than half lived changed the literary landscape of Britain.
“Banned as scandalous erotica when first published and subject of a watershed obscenity trial, Lawrence’s text caused outrage not just because of the expletives and explicit sexual relationship, but because it presented a physical relationship that traversed social class divides. This intense and fiery classic will find new frenzied power in its translation to the stage. ”
The cast will be led by Georgia Lennon (One Enchanted Evening, Beauty and the Beast) in the titular role.
Further casting includes Michael Pickering (Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat), Zoe Rogers (42nd Street), Jake Halsey-Jones (Hamilton), Sam Kipling (All-Male Pirates of Penzance,) and Emma Lindars (Groundhog Day).
The new musical has a score by John Robinson (Behind the Iron Mask, Duchess Theatre), with book by Phil Willmott (Once Upon a Time At the Adelphi; Relativity: The Einstein Musical).
Lady Chatterley’s Lover is directed by the award-winning Sasha Regan (All-Male Pirates of Penzance, UK and International tours), with production design by Andrew Exeter (High Fidelity) and costume design by Jasmine Swan (Animal Farm).
