First look: The Snow Queen at The Albany, London in rehearsals
First look rehearsal pictures of The Snow Queen at London’s The Albany have been revealed!
Award-winning family theatre-makers Wrongsemble are collaborating with the Albany and ARC Stockton Arts Centre to present The Snow Queen at the venue this Christmas, running 4 – 31 December 2021.
The piece is a musical reimagining of Hans Christian Andersen’s fairytale, adapted and directed by Wrongsemble’s Artistic Director Elvi Piper.
With an important message about the climate and sustainability, the reinvented festive tale sees the Snow Queen become a Drag Queen and the audience meet an array of fun characters including an anti-recycling hoarder, an energy abusing polar bear and an overworked elf.
At the top of the world lives the Snow Queen who is supposed to control the weather. But the seasons aren’t behaving. The world is getting warmer. And it hasn’t snowed for years….
Piper said: “Sometimes the youngest voices will speak the loudest truths.” Piper adds that the show has been created sustainably in every way possible from the materials used to the longevity of the set which will be reused after the Christmas run.”
The Albany’s Chief Executive and Artistic Director Gavin Barlow added: “As well as celebrating kindness, individuality and family, the production also includes an important message about how we can all care better for the planet and each other. It’s also great to be able to support new work that is sustainably made, and we can’t wait for families to see this hopeful and original show.”
Those on the cast are Thomas Cotran, Richard Priestley and Tilly Smith. The production is designed by Antony Jones with creative producer Chemeana Lacey, musical director and composer Rosie Fox, stage manager Heather Newsham, lighting designer Alastair Fox and associate artist Edith Kirkwood.
