The touching and powerful new musical, Fly More Than You Fall, is set to make its UK premiere at Southwark Playhouse Elephant, running from 18th October to 23rd November.

This moving piece is brought to life with a book and lyrics by Eric Holmes and music and lyrics by Nat Zegree, under the direction of Christian Durham.

At the heart of Fly More Than You Fall is Malia, a young girl whose world is turned upside down when her mother is diagnosed with terminal cancer.

Malia’s journey through this emotional landscape is vividly mirrored in the stories she writes, where she finds comfort and courage in an imagined world.

Her creation, a daring bird named Willow, becomes a powerful symbol of her fight against despair and her quest for hope.

With the love and support of her friends and family, Malia discovers that even in the darkest times, there is a way to rise above it all—to soar, just like Willow.

The musical is deeply personal for its creators. Both Eric Holmes and Nat Zegree lost a parent to cancer at a young age, and their grief and healing process have been woven into the fabric of this show.

As Holmes explains, “We created the show because we needed the show. Grief doesn’t have a time limit. It’s something you carry with you, and we wanted to explore that in a way that feels both honest and hopeful.”

Christian Durham, known for his work on productions like Zorro the Musical and Breaking The Code, takes the helm as director. The creative team also includes Associate Director Georgie Rankcom, Movement Director Heather Douglas, and Orchestrations and Arrangements by Daniel Edmonds. Pearson Casting CDG is in charge of casting, with Marc David Levine leading the production team as the lead producer.
