George Renshaw and Markus Sodergren

George Renshaw and Markus Sodergren are set to star in the UK premiere of the Broadway musical The Story of My Life.

The musical, with music and lyrics by Neil Bartram and a book by Brian Hill, is directed by Robert McWhir.

It will open at the Stage Door Theatre on Drury Lane, the first pub theatre in the West End, on 4 September and run until 19 October.

Renshaw and Sodergren will play childhood friends in this intimate two-person musical.

The Story of My Life follows best-selling author Thomas Weaver, who returns to his hometown to deliver a eulogy for his childhood friend Alvin Kelby. Struggling to find the right words, Thomas is drawn into a series of memories and stories that Alvin helps him to rediscover.

Renshaw, taking on the role of Alvin, recently played JD in Heathers the Musical at The Other Palace. He is currently performing as Harry Wotton in Dorian the Musical at Southwark Playhouse.

Sodergren, who will play Thomas, is returning to The Stage Door Theatre after his role in Marry Me A Little, for which he received an Offie nomination for Best Lead Performance in a Musical. He also performed in the UK tour of Heathers the Musical.

Nominated for four 2009 Drama Desk Awards, including Outstanding Musical, The Story of My Life is a touching exploration of friendship and the human need for connection. Through a series of songs that range from playful to dramatic, the musical encourages audiences to reconnect with their past and the people who shaped them.
