Grosvenor Park Open Air Theatre has revealed its 2024 season of shows!

The Chester venue will open from July – September with three shows being presented over the (hopefully!) sunny months.

The Gangs of New York (19 July – 31 August)

Starting the theatre season with a bang, audiences are in for a thrilling treat with a fresh adaptation of “The Gangs of New York,” drawn from Herbert Asbury’s iconic book. This adaptation delves into the tales from the infamous Five Points neighbourhood in lower Manhattan.

Crafted by the acclaimed writer, Kieran Lynn, and brought to vivid life under the direction of John Young, known for his celebrated productions like “Merry Wives of Windsor” (2021) and “Romeo and Juliet” (2023), this bold retelling ensures to enthral audiences with its gripping narrative and dynamic performances.

The Importance of Being Earnest (9 August – 1 September)

At Grosvenor Park Open Air Theatre, audiences can anticipate a hilarious rendition of Oscar Wilde’s timeless classic, The Importance of Being Earnest.

This beloved comedy of manners, directed by Natasha Rickman (Little Women), promises to delight theatregoers with its wit, charm, and enduring humour.

The Wonderful Wizard of Oz (27 July – 22 August)

For families seeking a magical adventure, Storyhouse presents The Wonderful Wizard of Oz walkabout theatre experience, immersing audiences in the enchanting world of Dorothy, Toto, and their companions.

Alex McGonagall will direct this spellbinding production, with Elizabeth Wright as the mastermind behind the production design.
