Jay McGuiness and Kimberley Walsh spill all on landmark production of Sleepless
Jay McGuiness and Kimberley Walsh have shared details on the upcoming production of Sleepless.
The new stage adaption based on the hit movie Sleepless in Seattle will run from August 25 running through to September 27, 2020 at Troubadour Wembley Park Theatre.
The show is set to be the first indoor production since theatres shut in March with social distancing restrictions in place.
Appearing on BBC’s The One Show last night (Tuesday, August 4), Jay McGuiness and Kimberley Walsh discussed the process of staging the musical.
McGuiness said: “Troubadour Theatre is massive, it isn’t a small West End theatre, our situation is the stars aligned. We can afford to rip out chairs have a giant space, the bar is huge and we can afford to socially distance at two metres if we need to.
“Our producers are going above and beyond what the government are saying.”
Walsh added: “We start rehearsals in a week an there will be certain things we need to rework slightly. The show itself really works for socially distancing because Jay and I don’t actually meet each other until the final scene so everything lends itself to this crazy time we’re living in.”
And on the show itself, Walsh enthused: “It’s a big happy warm musical romance. Who doesn’t need a little bit of escapism right now?”
Based on the screenplay of the iconic film, Sleepless tells the story of Sam who moves to Seattle with his eight-year-old son Jonah following the death of his wife. When Jonah calls in to a talk-radio program to find a new partner for his father, one listener finds herself going to great lengths to meet Sam.
