LIFELINE musical concept cast album released

Center Stage Records has released of the concept recording for LIFELINE, the brand-new musical penned by Becky Hope-Palmer with music and lyrics by Robin Hiley.

LIFELINE takes us on a riveting journey through the life of Alexander Fleming, the Scottish scientist whose discovery of penicillin changed the world forever. Set in 1928, the musical begins as Fleming accidentally finds the mould that would alter the course of history. With a score inspired by Scottish folk music, the show brings to life the trials, triumphs, and transformative impact of Fleming’s groundbreaking work.

But LIFELINE isn’t just about history. It intertwines Fleming’s story with that of Jess, a modern-day doctor. Jess’ childhood sweetheart, Aaron, is battling cancer, adding a deeply emotional layer to the narrative. We watch Aaron’s struggle to reclaim a normal life and rekindle their romance, all while his future hangs by a thread. The musical explores timeless themes of hope, resilience, and the enduring human spirit.

The star-studded cast includes Drama Desk Award nominee Aaron Lazar (The Last Ship), Arielle Jacobs (Here Lies Love), Nathan Salstone (Sweeney Todd), Drama Desk winner Jay Armstrong Johnson (Parade), Mia Gerachis (Pretty Woman), as well as original cast members Richard Lounds, Sarah Haddath, Graham Richardson, Steph Strachan, Rhian Ferrigan and Jess Barker.

Adding a unique twist, the musical features an international chorus of real-life scientists and healthcare professionals from previous touring casts in Scotland, Atlanta, and Washington DC. These are the people who face the global health threat of antibiotic resistance every day, which is at the heart of the musical’s message.

Formerly known as The Mould that Changed the World, the musical is a two-time sell-out at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe (2018 and 2022). It has toured London, Glasgow, Atlanta, and Washington DC, and is set for an Off-Broadway run in August and September 2024. The concept album is produced by Robin Hiley.
