Lynn Nottage’s Mlima’s Tale to make UK premiere at Kiln Theatre this September

Lynn Nottage’s Mlima’s Tale will make its UK premiere at the at Kiln Theatre this autumn.

Miranda Cromwell’s production will run from 21 September – 21 October, with previews from 14 September.

Making up the cast are Gabrielle Brooks (Githinji), Pui Fan Lee (Gouxi), Brandon Grace (Andrew), Natey Jones (Geedi) and Ira Mandela Siobhan (Mlima).

Lynn Nottage said: “I am beyond excited to be working with director Miranda Cromwell, and to share Mlima’s Tale with audiences at the Kiln. It is so good to be back in the theatre where I have had a long and glorious collaboration with Artistic Director Indhu Rubasingham.”

Indhu Rubasingham added: “It is a real honour to be producing the UK premiere of Lynn Nottage’s Mlima’s Tale at Kiln. This powerful play tells a story about the brutality of the ivory trade, its injustice and the complicity of capitalism and globalisation. I’m delighted that Miranda Cromwell will direct the play, joined by a wonderful creative team. We can’t wait for audiences to see it.”

They call him Mlima, the mountain. Killed for his magnificent tusks, killed for greed, killed for ivory, his spirit journeys through the ivory trade market, marking those complicit in his barbaric death.

The production has design by Amelia Jane Hankin, lighting design by Amy Mae, composition by Femi Temowo, casting by Lotte Hines CDG with voice & dialect coach Hazel Holder; and Kiln Mackintosh Resident Assistant Director Jessica Mensah.
