Musical adaptation of Saving Grace film heading for the West End

A musical adaptation of the film Saving Grace is looking to open in the West End.

Based on the 2000 movie, Saving Grace will feature songs from Suddenly I See singer-songwriter KT Tunstall with April de Angelis penning the book.

The original film starred Brenda Blethyn as a widow who turns to growing cannabis to help pay off her late husband’s debts.

Craig Ferguson and Martin Clunes also featured in the film, which was nominated for both a Bafta for director Mark Crowdy and Golden Globe for Blethyn.

Laurence Connor (Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Cinderella, School Of Rock) is set to direct the new stage production, which is aiming for a West End bow in 2023.

Tunstall told the Daily Mail of the project: “I want everyone to come out whistling their favourite tune.”

Producer Barney Wragg added: “It’s a bit madcap, and a bit wacky. And it’s a little bit naughty — about cannabis and weed — but they don’t end up doing anything terrible.”

Clare Burt is set to feature in a reading of the new show this month (February) ahead of a planned try out prior to the West End in December.
