Mythosphere: Magical Russian-UK theatre production opens at Stone Nest

A Russian UK theatre production opens this week at Stone Nest on Shaftesbury Avenue.

The London venue will welcome Mythosphere, described as a “boldly ambitious international collaboration between Russia and the UK.”

The piece will play between 20 September and 9 October with a press night on 22 September. Tickets are available online here.

Created and directed by Russian director and film maker Inna Dulerayn, Mythosphere combines live theatrical performance, a chorus of singers and musicians alongside video projection, animation and film.

Inspired by the writings of surrealist Leonora Carrington and fantasy writer Diana Wynne Jones, Mythosphere treads the dark path of the fairy tale forest that lies in the shadows of our imagination and the unexplored depths of our unconscious in this dazzling story of magic – the magic we have lost and the magic that is a forgotten part of our nature.

Told through the experiences of a young girl who loses her magic powers trying to fit in and an old lady who discovers that her delusions are magic powers, this intellectually thrilling production explores nature, the supernatural, psychoanalysis, folklore and feminism.

An international cast will make up the production, led by Edyta Budnik as the Girl and Lucienne Deschamps as Granny.

They’re joined by Scott Brooksbank, Sam Kipling, Angle Kwok and Elisa Mammoliti as the Bird with dancers Ekaterina Garyanskaya, Artem Bogucharsk, Evgeniya Glazunova, George Grischenkov and Anastasia Shelepova.

The creative team features motion graphics and animation by Masha Yukhananov, stage design and props by Jemima Robinson, costume design by Anna Smirnova, music and sound objects by Alexey Nadjarov and Iraida Yusupova, lighting design by Jackie Shemesh and video/sound design by Maks Demydenko.

Mythosphere plays at Stone Nest Monday 20 September to Saturday 9 October 2021 with performances Monday-Saturday at 7PM. Tickets priced from £8 available online here.
