New musical Ride to return to London this summer at Southwark Playhouse

New musical Ride will return to London this summer!

The show will run at Southwark Playhouse Elephant from 19 July – 12 August 2023.

The piece by Jack Williams and Freya Catrin Smith tells the story of Annie Londonderry, the first woman to cycle around the world.

It’s 1894 and as the bicycle is sweeping change across America, Annie Londonderry has a wager to settle: can a woman cycle across the world? 4 continents in 15 months: easy! Except she’s only been on a bicycle twice. From moneymaking masquerades as a Harvard professor to hunting tigers with German royalty, Annie spins the media into a frenzy with tales of her thrilling escapades. But with time running out and press coverage spiralling, she soon discovers that no matter how many miles she rides, the secrets of her past are never far behind.

The cast will feature Liv Andrusier as Annie and Katy Ellis as Martha with Fallon Mondlane as understudy.

Sarah Meadows directs with set and costume design by Amy Jane Cook, lighting design by Jamie Platt, orchestrations by Macy Schmidt, sound design by Andrew Johnson, movement direction and choreography by Natasha Harrison, musical direction and supervision by Sam Young and illusions by John Bulleid.

After premiering at Vault Festival in 2020, Ride ran at the Garrick Theatre in 2021 with two semi-staged performances. The show made its fully staged debut last year at the Charing Cross Theatre.
