A new movie adaption of The Phantom Of The Opera is reportedly in development.
Based on the French novel of the same name by Gaston Leroux, The Phantom Of The Opera has been running on the West End and Broadway since the 1980s.
The musical features music by Andrew Lloyd Webber and lyrics from Charles Hart and Richard Stilgoe with a book by Stilgoe and Lloyd Webber.
Following a 2004 film adaption, starring Gerard Butler, Emmy Rossum and Patrick Wilson, a new screen version of the stage show is said to be in the works at Universal.
We Got This Covered report that the plot will see the setting changed from 19th century Paris to present-day New York.
Beyond that update, it will tell the familiar story of soprano singer Christine Daaé who becomes the obsession of a masked musical genius known as the Phantom.
The website reports that a script is currently being written by Jay Basu who previously penned the screenplay for The Girl in the Spider’s Web.
