Petition to keep James Corden away from Wicked movie has over 35,000 signatures
A petition to keep James Corden away from the cast of the upcoming Wicked movie has more than 35,000 signatures.
Following his recent musical movie appearances in Cats, The Prom and Cinderella, fans of Wicked don’t want Corden near the upcoming film adaptation.
An online petition set up reads simply: “James Corden in no way shape or form should be in or near the production of Wicked the movie.
“That’s pretty much it.”
Over 35,000 people have so far put their names to the cause, with one commentator writing: “We’ve suffered enough”.
The petition follows Wicked’s lead casting being announced this week.
West End’s very own Cynthia Erivo will take on the iconic role of Elphaba with Ariana Grande as G(a)linda.
Director Jon M Chu tweeted of the news: “Goooood Newwwws!!! The incredible #CynthiaErivo and @ArianaGrande will be our Elphaba and Galinda in @WickedMovie…Get ready for a match up like you’ve never seen!!! In pink and green!!!”
Further casting for the film is to be announced.
Four-time Olivier Award winner Imelda Staunton has been tipped for the role of Madame Morrible while Harry Styles has been rumoured for Fiyero.
For now we have to wait and see.
The film is currently expected to be released sometime in 2023, twenty years after it premiered on Broadway.

With a score by Stephen Schwartz, the show featuring some of musical theatre’s most iconic songs, such as Defying Gravity and Popular.
In the West End the show has been playing at the Apollo Victoria Theatre since 2006.
