Respect trailer: Watch first look at Jennifer Hudson in Aretha Franklin biopic
A first teaser trailer for upcoming Aretha Franklin biopic Respect has dropped.
Following the rise of Aretha Franklin’s career from a child singing in her father’s church’s choir to her international superstardom, Respect is the remarkable true story of the music icon’s journey to find her voice.
The cast is led by Jennifer Hudson in the title role with Forest Whitaker, Marlon Wayans, Audra McDonald, Marc Maron, Tituss Burgess, Saycon Sengbloh, Hailey Kilgore, Skye Dakota Turner, Tate Donovan, and Mary J. Blige.

Further cast include Queen Latifah, Heather Headley, Kimberly Scott and Lodric D. Collins.
The musical features a screenplay by Tracey Scott Wilson and is directed by Liesl Tommy.
Originally due for release in August, Respect will now have a limited premiere in the United States on December 25 before a wide release in January 2021.
The release date in the UK has yet to be officially confirmed.
