Sorry, Beetlejuice musical fans: There is no proshot on its way

The producer of Beetlejuice The Musical has said a screen version of the Broadway show is not on its way.

Following the release of the likes of Hamilton on Disney+, there had been claims that a proshot of the Beetljuice musical could come to streaming platform HBO Max.

Unfortunately, that’s not true (yet).

Producer Mark Kaufman spoke to The Hollywood Reporter about the show’s most-recent Broadway run and revealed all on a possible filmed version.

Kaufman revealed: “We had planned to do it in April [2020]. And a lot of things happened. During the pandemic, a lot of these video captures came out, some successful, some not as successful.

“I think it’s a very expensive venture, and I think at this moment in time, it wasn’t the right idea for us to focus on it.”

So while there’s no way to watch Beetlejuice The Musical at home just yet, don’t rule it out in future.

An adaption of the 1988 film of the same name, Beetlejuice premiered on Broadway in 2019 with its score by Australian singer-songwriter Eddie Perfect becoming a huge hit on social media.

The musical originally closed on Broadway in 2020 with a planned final performance in June before the pandemic forced an early closure in March.

However due to popular demand the show returned to New York in April 2022 at a new theatre. It will play its final performance on Sunday, 8 January 2023.

The closing cast features Alex Brightman in the title role with Elizabeth Teeter as Lydia.

Meanwhile there are rumours about a possible West End production in the works – but nothing has been officially announced just yet.
