Stage adaptation of Jacques Tati film Playtime to premiere at Royal & Derngate Northampton
Jacques Tati’s iconic film Playtime will be brought to the stage for the first time this autumn.
Royal & Derngate Northampton is to present the world premiere production from 2 – 17 September 2022 as part of its Made in Northampton season.
Adapted for the stage by Dancing Brick with original music by Chilly Gonzales and Martha Wainwright, the production will be directed by Thomas Eccleshare and Valentina Ceschi with design by Michael Vale, comedy direction by John Nicholson (Peepolykus) and sound design by Kayode Gomez.
Recently named one of the top films of all time by the BFI, the comedy about confusion in an age of high technology launched the lovably old-fashioned clown Monsieur Hulot to international fame, conjuring up an ensemble of lost souls navigating a baffling modern world.
With every beat of the film crammed with hilarity and inventiveness, Playtime depicts a modern era tiptoeing on the edge of oblivion.
Casting for the production is to be announced.
