Sylvia musical to make world premiere at Old Vic in 2023 with Beverley Knight
Sylvia musical cast and ticketsNew musical Sylvia will make its world premiere at the Old Vic Theatre later this year.
Following its 2018 run as a work-in-progress, the show will make its fully staged debut at the venue from 27 January – 1 April 2023.
Beverley Knight will star as Emmeline Pankhurst with Kelly Agbowu as Mrs Drummond/Mrs Savoy, Verity Blyth as Clementine Churchill/Mrs Scurr, Kimmy Edwards as Emily Davison/Lillie Hardie/Mrs Watkins, Alex Gaumond as Keir Hardie, Jade Hackett as Lady Jennie Churchill/Mrs Payne, Todd Holdsworth as Silvio Corio, Stevie Hutchinson as Lloyd George/Lord Curzon and Kate Ivory Jordan as Mrs Parsons.
They’re joined by Hannah Khemoh as Understudy Emmeline Pankhurst, Jaye Marshall as Ensemble, Razak Osman as Harry Pankhurst/Sir Almroth Wright, Jay Perry as Winston Churchill/George Lansbury, Sharon Rose as Sylvia Pankhurst, Kirstie Skivington as Adela Pankhurst and Ellena Vincent as Christabel Pankhurst.
Completing the cast are Bradley Charles as Lord Cromer/Richard Pankhurst/Alan, Sinead Long as Ensemble, Antoine Murray-Straughan as Ensemble, Kandaka Moore as Mrs Parsons/Sophia Singh and Malachi Welch as Ensemble.
This revolutionary story celebrates the life of Sylvia Pankhurst – feminist, activist, pacifist, socialist, rebel – the lesser-known Pankhurst at the heart of the Suffragette movement, who changed the lives of working women and men across the world.
The musical has a book by Kate Prince and Priya Parmar with lyrics by Prince and music from Josh Cohen and DJ Walde.
Prince also directs and chorographs with set and costume design by Ben Stones, lighting by Natasha Chivers, sound by Tony Gayle, video & animation by Andrzej Goulding, wig, hair & make up by Cynthia de la Rosa, co-music supervisors Mark Dickman & Leonn Meade, casting by Stuart Burt CDG & Oliver Scullion, dramaturg Lolita Chakrabarti, additional music by Kate Prince, additional lyrics by Tachia Newall, music production by Josh Cohen & DJ Walde and musical direction by Sean Green.
The associate director is Rhimes Lecointe, associate choreographer Jade Hackett, resident rirector & choreographer Chris Alozie, costume supervisor Tash Prynne and musicians’ contractor Oli Briant.
