The Effect revival at National Theatre – cast, dates and tickets

A new production of The Effect will come to National Theatre this summer.

Jamie Lloyd (Cyrano de Bergerac) directs Lucy Prebble’s (Succession) funny and intimate examination of love and ethics from 1 August 2023.

Paapa Essiedu (I May Destroy You) is cast as Tristan and Taylor Russell (Bones and All) as Connie.

They will be joined by Michele Austin, Shereener Browne, Valentine Hanson, Kobna Holdbrook-Smith, Mara Huf and Joseph Langdon.

Hearts and minds racing, Connie and Tristan are falling for each other fast. But is their sudden and intoxicating chemistry real, or a side effect of a new antidepressant? As two young volunteers in a clinical drug trial, their romance poses startling dilemmas for the supervising doctors.

The production will have set and costume design by Soutra Gilmour, lighting design by Jon Clark, composition by Michael ‘Mikey J’ Asante, sound design by George Dennis, movement direction by Sarah Golding and Yukiko Masui (SAY), fight direction by Kate Waters, intimacy co-ordination by Ingrid Mackinnon and casting by Alastair Coomer CDG and Chloe Blake.

The Effect will play in the Lyttelton theatre from 1 August – 7 October 2023.
