The Little Mermaid Disney+ release date confirmed for live action movie
The new live action movie adaption of The Little Mermaid is coming to Disney+ in the UK!
The original 1989 Disney animation has been reimagined in a new film starring Halle Bailey in the title role.
Based on the Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale, it tells the story of mermaid Princess named Ariel who dreams of becoming human. She makes a deal with a sea witch called Ursula after falling for a prince named Eric and rescuing him in a storm.

Following its release in cinemas in May, The Little Mermaid will come to Disney+ in the UK from 6 September 2023.
Alongside Bailey, the cast will feature Jonah Hauer-King as Prince Eric, Jacob Tremblay as Flounder, Awkwafina as Scuttle, Javier Bardem as King Triton, Daveed Diggs as Sebastian and Melissa McCarthy as Ursula.
The movie will be a musical just like the original, featuring both the songs by Alan Menken and Howard Ashman from the 1989 movie plus new tunes from Menken and Hamilton’s Lin-Manuel Miranda.

“While mermaids are forbidden to interact with humans, Ariel must follow her heart. She makes a deal with the evil sea witch, Ursula, which gives her a chance to experience life on land, but ultimately places her life – and her father’s crown – in jeopardy.”
