The Time Traveller’s Wife: The Musical announces cast for West End this October

New musical The Time Traveller’s Wife is to open in London’s West end this autumn

Based on the best-selling novel by Audrey Niffenegger and the New Line Cinema film screenplay by Bruce Joel Rubin, the show will run at the Apollo Theatre from 7 October 2023, currently booking to 30 March 2024. Tickets are on sale now here.

The musical, with music and lyrics by Joss Stone and Dave Stewart, made its world premiere at Storyhouse in Chester last year.

David Hunter will star as Henry and Joanna Woodward as Clare, reprising the roles they played in Chester.

They’ll be joined by Tim Mahendran as Gomez, Hiba Elchikhe as Charisse and Ross Dawes as Henry’s Dad.

Sorelle Marsh will play Henry’s Mum, Alwyne Taylor will play the Librarian, Irfan Damani will play Clare’s Dad, Alexandra Doar will play Clare’s Mum, Alex Lodge will play Jason/Mark and Helena Pipe will play Dr Kendrick.

Completing the cast are Billie Hardy, Daniel George-Wright, Serina Mathew, Nathaniel Purnell and Bobby Windebank. The role of Young Clare and Alba will be shared by Ava Critchell, Lily Hanna, Poppy Pawson and Holly-Jade Roberts.

Henry and Clare’s love story is like no other and yet like all others; they meet, flirt, fight, love, marry… but all out of order.

Henry is often and uncontrollably ripped out of time, because he suffers from a rare condition where his genetic clock periodically resets, pulling him into his past or future, vanishing before one’s eyes, never knowing where or when he’s going next. Except he knows he’ll always come back to Clare, at some point in time, dreaming of her time-travelling husband.

Producer Colin Ingram said: “After six years developing this show and an extremely successful try-out in Chester, we are so delighted to present the world premiere of a new British musical based on such a beloved book. This confident, clever and charming musical by British rock royalty Dave Stewart and Joss Stone shows off their musicianship and director Bill Buckhurst and his creative team have created an incredible world to tell this cherished story in the most powerful and emotional way.”

Dave Stewart added: “Working with Joss Stone alongside Lauren Gunderson has been a thrilling experience. The world that director Bill Buckhurst has created for this very emotional love story brings magic to the stage. The songs Joss and I have written for this amazing musical have been woven together so brilliantly by composer/arranger Nick Finlow and, as we intended, the audience are enraptured in the joy of the story, the music and the complexities of close relationships.”

Joss Stone commented: “To say I’m excited is an understatement. Never in my wildest dreams did I think I would be part of creating a musical, let alone one that will be enjoyed in the West End! It’s truly wonderful to be part of such a talented group of people.”
