The dazzling Bollywood musical Bombay Superstars is set to make a grand entrance onto the West End stage.

Presented by the award-winning Phizzical Productions, a concert version of the musical will light up His Majesty’s Theatre on for a one-night-only performance on Sunday, 15 September 2024. Tickets are on sale now here.

Bombay Superstars stands out as the fourth ‘made in the UK’ South Asian musical to grace the West End and the first by an independent producer. The show is a jukebox musical that features iconic songs from Bollywood legends like Amitabh Bachchan and Rekha

Set in the vibrant disco era of the 1970s, this retro musical narrates a passionate star-crossed romance, intertwining real events with cinematic stories, creating a thrilling and scandalous experience for its audience. It also highlights the feminist voices of the era, portraying female stars who take destiny into their own hands, showcasing the power of sisterhood.

The musical is the brainchild of Sâmir Bhamra, a renowned creator of authentic Bollywood-inspired works, and the Artistic Director of Phizzical Productions. Bombay Superstars is both written and directed by Bhamra, known for Bring on the Bollywood and Precious Bazaar.

Speaking about the musical, Sâmir Bhamra said: “Bombay Superstars is a dream project that resonates with Bollywood enthusiasts like my family. It’s a fun, entertaining, and meaningful homage to Indian actresses of the 1970s who influenced South Asian women globally. This show is a celebration of the disco era, the divas, and the drama that created Bollywood icons.”

Set against the backdrop of Bollywood, the world’s largest film industry, Bombay Superstars promises an exciting mix of live music, spectacular dancing, and glamorous storytelling. The show will be performed in English and sung in Hindi, with subtitles throughout to ensure accessibility for a diverse audience.

Sâmir Bhamra said: “I had an aspiration to create a musical that resonated with people like my Bollywood-loving mom, my aunts or my grandma. Bombay Superstars weaves fun, entertaining, and meaningful stories of Indian actresses of the 1970s who played a pivotal role in shaping the world for South Asian women of all ages globally.

“Only by looking into the struggles of the past, can we take a moment to take stock of today, and then commence the fight for a more equal tomorrow. Come and enjoy Bombay Superstar because it is a jubilant celebration of the Disco, the Divas and the Drama that created Bollywood icons!”
