Kerry Ellis teases plans for If/Then musical in London’s West End

Kerry Ellis has revealed she’s in talks to bring If/Then to the West End.

The star of Wicked, We Will Rock You and much more shared plans for the Broadway musical to make its debut in London in 2022.

Speaking to fellow West End star Sheridan Smith on BBC Radio 2, Ellis said the planned production was still “in very early conversations.”

“It ticks a lot of boxes for me,” she said. “We’re thinking about it, we haven’t got a theatre yet.”

As yet there’s been other information on what to expect from what would be the show’s first ever UK production.

If/Then features music from Tom Kitt and a book and lyrics by Brian Yorkey. The pair previously worked together on another hit Broadway musical Next to Normal, which has also yet to be produced in the UK.

If/Then simultaneously follows one woman’s two possible life paths, painting a deeply moving portrait of the lives that we lead, as well as the lives that we might have led.

Elizabeth, a city planner, moves back to New York to restart her life in the city of infinite possibilities. When her carefully designed plans collide with the whims of fate, Elizabeth’s life splits into two parallel paths. If/Then follows both stories simultaneously, as this modern woman faces the intersection of choice and chance.

The show was produced on Broadway in 2014 with Idina Menzel in the lead role, picking up two Tony Award nominations for Best Lead Actress and Best Original Score.

A US tour followed but the show has yet to be staged in the UK.
