Alan Menken teases Tangled and Enchanted stage adaptations

Alan Menken has teased potential stage adaptations of Tangled and Enchanted.

Many of the legendary music composer’s Disney works have already been brought to Broadway and the West End, including Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid, Hercules and The Hunchback of Notre Dame.

In a new interview, Menken spoke about possible further stage shows based on 2010 animation Tangled and 2007’s live-action and animated hybrid hit Enchanted, which recently released a sequel on Disney Plus.

He told WhatsOnStage: “Enchanted I would love to see on the stage. The trick would be to get that animation into live action thing happening.”

And on Tangled, which was previously adapted for Disney’s Cruise Line with new songs, the maestro teased to the publication: “We’re already talking about it for the stage”.

For now, watch this space!

Right now, Menken has been working with Lin-Manuel Miranda on new songs for the upcoming live action version of The Little Mermaid. The new tracks will accompany those originally written by Menken and late writing partner Howard Ashman for the 1989 animation.

Menken previously revealed of the new songs: “There is some rapping in it and I really can’t take much credit for the rap aspect of it. Yeah, there’s some rapping in it, there’s some very Menken songs, there’s some very Miranda songs. But it’s all the blend of Menken-Miranda.

The new movie is out this weekend, with Halle Bailey in the title role.
