Cast announced for new musical In Dreams at Leeds Playhouse

Casting has been announced for new Roy Orbison musical In Dreams at Leeds Playhouse.

Leading the venue’s new season, In Dreams will be written by David West Read and directed by Luke Sheppard who reunite after their success together on & Juliet.

Described as “a lyrical and comedic exploration about legacy and how we would like to be remembered”, the musical will make its world premiere at Leeds Playhouse from 3 July – 5 August.

Making up the cast will be Lena Hall as Kenna, Oliver Tompsett as Ramsey, Sian Reese-Williams as Jane, Noël Sullivan as Donovan, Manuel Pacific as Oscar, Gabriela García as Nicole, Alma Cuervo as Ana Sofia, Richard Trinder as George and Leon Craig as Tom.

Completing the company are Mark Peachey Fabiola Ocasio, Hannah Ducharme and Pablo Gómez Jones.

Set in New Mexico, the story revolves around the former lead singer of a country-rock band, who, at a critical moment in her life, invites her old bandmates to join her for “the party of a lifetime” while keeping her true motivations a secret.

In Dreams will take you on a joyous uplifting but also moving journey —a lyrical and comedic exploration of the universal longing for love and connection when facing challenging times.

The production has choreography by Fabian Aloise, set design by Arnulfo Donado, costume designs by Fay Fullerton, lighting design by Howard Hudson, sound design by Tom Marshall, music supervision by Catherine Jayes, musical direction by Patrick Hurley and video design by George Reeve.

The casting directors are Annelie Powell CDG and Stephen Kopel, associate director Tania Azevedo, associate choreographer Paris Green, associate designer (US) Oscar Escobedo, associate designer (UK) Verity Sadler, costume supervisor Laura Hunt, sound associate Callum Wills and casting assistant Alice Walters.

Writer David West Read said: “When I was growing up in Canada, the iconic music of Roy Orbison was playing on repeat in my household, and it has been a lifelong ambition of mine to build a contemporary musical around his classic songs.

“To bring this show to the Leeds audience, in this theatre, in this moment, is quite literally a dream come true.”
