Cast announced for new The Nutcracker musical at Bristol Old Vic

Casting has been announced for The Nutcracker at Bristol Old Vic this Christmas.

Part of the outgoing artistic director Tom Morris’ Farewell Season, the piece will run from 24 November 2022 to 7 January.

A magical, musical adaptation of the story behind the classic ballet, The Nutcracker comes from the pens of Tom Morris and composer/lyricist Gwyneth Herbert and is staged by Lee Lyford (The Snow Queen, A Christmas Carol, The Elephant Man).

The cast will feature Bristol Old Vic regulars Tristan Sturrock (Cyrano, Peter Pan,Tristan & Yseult), Patrycja Kujawska (Cyrano, Tristan & Yseult, Dead Dog in a Suitcase, The Grinning Man), Guy Hughes (Twelfth Night, Cyrano, The Little Matchgirl) and Harry Bird (A Christmas Carol, The Snow Queen) with Bristol Old Vic debuts for Denzel Baidoo (Screw, Suspicion), Mae Munuo (Gulliver, The Bolds) and Kirris Rivieré (A View from the Bridge, Sandman and Manhunt).

On a Christmas Eve unlike any other, Claire receives a magical gift…

Transported to a fantastical kingdom where toys come to life, nutcrackers can talk and just about anything feels possible, she soon discovers that it’s not just mice lurking beneath the floorboards.

But danger is coming – will Claire and her friends be able to stop the King of the Rats in his tracks before it’s too late?

And why is she so fixated on her imaginary unicorn?

Bristol Old Vic presents a bold and wild theatrical re-telling of The Nutcracker, full of magic, adventure and show-stopping dance numbers.

The production has set & costume design by Tom Rogers, lighting design by Anna Watson, sound design by Adrienne Quartly and choreography by Laila Diallo. The casting director is Jatinder Chera and assistant director Cat Boot.
