Cast revealed for A-Typical Rainbow premiere at The Turbine Theatre

Casting has been announced for the world premiere of new play A-Typical Rainbow at The Turbine Theatre.

Based on real events from the perspective of writer JJ Green, A-Typical Rainbow is described as “an uplifting play about the experience of growing up neurodivergent and queer in early 2000s Britain”.

JJ Green is to lead the cast of the premiere as Boy, joined by Caroline Deverill as Mother, James Westphal as Father/Doctor, Conor Joseph as Jake/Daniel, Joy Tan as Abby/Thomas/Lara and Maya Manuel as Emily/Mrs Whiteman/Rachel.

The piece will play London’s The Turbine Theatre for a limited run from 30 June until 7 August 2022. There will be a relaxed performance on 20 July and a captioned performance on 28 July.

A-Typical Rainbow is an authentic narrative take on the life of a queer autistic person from 1995-2020.

Combining pop culture, fantasy, friendship & love in a suppressive society for us all we’re showing you the truth behind the myth & how a kinder world isn’t one as far away as over the rainbow…

Produced by Aria Entertainment, the show is directed by Bronagh Lagan with composition and sound design by Max Alexander-Taylor, who is autistic, and choreography by William Spencer, who is neurodivergent.

Katy Lipson (Producer) has said: “I am so thrilled to be presenting the World Premiere of this beautiful and relevant piece of writing. We are delighted to have assembled such a wonderful creative team and cast with multiple autistic and neurodivergent team members. We are looking forward to welcoming audiences to the Turbine Theatre this summer.”
