Disney's Newsies London reviews roundup

Reviews have dropped for the new production of Disney’s Newsies in London – what did the critics make of it?

Based on a true story, Newsies is set in New York City at the turn of the 20th century. It’s the rousing tale of a ragged band of teenage newspaper sellers, who dream of a better life far from the hardship of the streets.

Previously running on Broadway in 2012, a new London production opened at the Troubadour Wembley Park Theatre on 8 December 2022. Directed and choreographed by Matt Cole, the cast is led by Michael Ahomka-Lindsay and Bronté Barbé.

The Stage – 4/5
“It’s not going to trouble Billy Elliot for top spot in the list of best musicals about strikes – there’s too little political reality here for that […] Instead, this is a vehicle for good songs, wry wisecracks and the most exuberant choreography this side of 42nd Street.” – Read the full review

The Times – 3/5
“Performed with universal aplomb by its cast of 35, its wonderful dance routines add massive pep to an otherwise perfectly adequate musical” – Read the full review
