First listen to Reneé Rapp singing World Burn from Mean Girls movie

Reneé Rapp covers the Mean Girls soundtrack album

The first song from the upcoming Mean Girls movie soundtrack has dropped!

Ahead of the new film’s release this week, you can now stream the song online here. (Note: It will be available from 12AM your local time zone).

The iconic 11 o’clock number from the stage has undergone a bit of a makeover, departing from its original Broadway version with a more pop arrangement.

Reviews on social media have seemingly been rather mixed.

While everyone is agreed Reneé is unquestionably killing it on the vocal department, not everyone is keen on the new reworking of the tune.

On X (Twitter), one reacted: “reneé’s world burn continues to blow every other version out of the water and i love this new arrangement so bad”

However another remarked: “so… who did the instrumental for world burn? i just wanna talk”

Composer Jeff Richmond previously shared his approach to adapting the music for the screen.

“I wanted to bend the songs a little bit more to sound like radio hits, so we were changing the palette from Broadway to radio,” he explained.

As well as some songs getting pop makeovers, many others have been cut completely.

It Roars, Where Do You Belong, Fearless, Stop and plenty more don’t feature in the film’s official song list.

The movie is set for release in the United States on 12 January 2024. Fans in the UK will have to wait slightly longer, with the film hitting British cinemas in previews from 17 January 2024.

Meanwhile the original stage show will open in the West End this summer.
