Frozen the Musical’s London’s West End run opening night confirmed

Frozen The Musical in London’s West End has confirmed its opening plans for summer 2021.

The new London production was originally due to begin preview performances at London’s Theatre Royal Drury Lane on October 2020.

Due to the pandemic, performances were then rescheduled to begin on April 2, 2021.

Now it’s been announced that the opening night will be 8 September following previews from 27 August.

A statement on the show’s official website reads: “We are all excited about the time when we will be back in the theatre together enjoying the magic of live performance and are in the process of contacting existing ticket holders with new dates for Frozen, which will open in August 2021.”

They add: “Existing guests do not need to do anything at the moment – you will be contacted in the next few weeks with your revised performance date. If the new date is not suitable, once you have received your new confirmation email, you will be able to request an exchange into an alternative performance or to request a credit voucher, or a refund if necessary.

“We would like to thank you for your ongoing patience and understanding – we are doing everything we can to cause as little inconvenience to you as possible. We promise the wait will be worth it.”

Disney previously revealed its full cast for Frozen in London with Samantha Barks taking up the leading role as ice queen Elsa while Stephanie McKeon will appear as sister princess Anna.

Meanwhile, it’s been revealed the London version of the 2013 animated film’s stage adaption will feature a number of changes from the original Broadway production, including new song I Can’t Lose You performed by Elsa and Anna.

Over in the States, Disney recently announced that the Broadway production of Frozen would not re-open once restrictions ease, with all New York theatres closed until at least September.

Frozen had been running alongside its sister Disney productions The Lion King and Aladdin on Broadway since 2018.

Frozen features music and lyrics by husband and wife team Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez who wrote both the original songs for the film and more than 10 new songs for the Broadway show.

The musical’s book comes from Jennifer Lee, who wrote the film’s screenplay, with direction from Michael Grandage, choreography from Rob Ashford and musical supervision/arrangements by Stephen Oremus.
