Grease prequel TV series following the Pink Ladies is in the works

A prequel TV series to the hit movie musical Grease is in the works.

The iconic film was released in 1978, based on the 1971 Broadway musical of the same name written by Jim Jacobs and the late Warren Casey.

It follows the story of Danny and Sandy – played by John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John – during their time at Rydell High School.

Now a brand new prequel TV series is in the works.

Titled Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies, the show is set four years before the events in the film and stage show.

Variety reports that the ten-episode musical comedy series will “highlight the rise of the original four Pink Ladies – Rizzo, Jan, Marty and Frenchy – long before they had to whip into shape the clean-cut new girl from Australia.”

The publication reports that the show will feature new songs, potentially alongside some of those from the original film.

The series will stream in the US on Paramount Plus having previously been in development for HBO Max. There’s no word yet on a UK distributor.

Meanwhile, a separate Grease prequel movie called Summer Lovin’ is also in the works.
