Over eight weeks, the show, set in the stunning Greek locales of the Mamma Mia! story, captivated viewers with performances from 14 aspiring musical theatre artists. These contestants underwent rigorous training under the guidance of MAMMA MIA!’s choreographer Anthony Van Laast and musical director Martin Lowe. Judges Alan Carr, Jessie Ware, Amber Riley, and Samantha Barks, along with MAMMA MIA!’s creator Judy Craymer, meticulously whittled the group down to the final four.

The final showdown for the role of Sophie was between Stevie Doc, a 22-year-old musical theatre teacher from Glasgow, and Esme Bowdler, a 23-year-old barista from Chester. Competing for the role of Sky were Owen Johnston, a 25-year-old theatre usher from Belfast, and Tobias Turley, a 23-year-old singing waiter from Somerset.

In the end, it was up to the British public to decide the fate of these talented performers. Host Zoe Ball announced the winners in a live broadcast from the Novello Theatre, the West End home of Mamma Mia!.

The winners now embark on a swift journey to the stage, with rehearsals for their debut West End performance scheduled for Monday 29th January 2024 at London’s Novello Theatre.

Creator and Global Producer of Mamma Mia! Judy Craymer said: “It’s a joyous result and I’m delighted to welcome Stevie and Tobias to join the West End cast in this very special year celebrating Mamma Mia!’s 25th anniversary. All our contestants are so talented and worked so hard, they went through the most intensive musical theatre boot camp with such energy, flair and commitment. They were all such a joy to work with and are all winners in my eyes.”

Since its 1999 London premiere, Mamma Mia! has become a global phenomenon, enchanting 65 million people worldwide. Its success has led to two blockbuster films and a legacy that continues to resonate. The inclusion of Stevie and Tobias in the 25th-anniversary cast marks a new chapter in the enduring story of this beloved musical.
