Initial reactions for Sunset Boulevard revival with Nicole Scherzinger
First audience reactions have dropped to the new Sunset Boulevard revival in the West End.
Directed by Jamie Lloyd, Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Sunset Boulevard is now running for a limited 16-week season at the Savoy Theatre. Tickets are on sale now here.
Nicole Scherzinger stars as Norma Desmond at most performances, with Rachel Tucker guest starring as Norma Desmond on Thursday 12 October matinee, and all Monday performances from 16 October 2023 – 6 January 2024.
While official reviews are yet to drop, those at the first performance have shared their initial reactions to what looks like it is going to be a standout theatre event.
“I have taken an hour and I actually still cannot form the words. This revival of @sunsetblvd is without a doubt one of the most thrilling pieces of theatre I have seen in years. YEARS. Everything everyone questioned is out to rest,” wrote Tracey Bates on X (Twitter).
Another added: “Wow. @sunsetblvd’s first preview was exquisite. I’ve spent my life writing and 4 hrs later I’m still lost for words. Risks are taken. Some will love it. Some may not. Some may be confused. So. Much. Emotion.”
And a third enthused: “@sunsetblvd – bold, haunting & sexy. This version is not going to be for everyone but my jaw was on the floor by the end of the show.”
Meanwhile cast member Charlotte Jaconelli shared after the first performance: “First preview. 3 standing ovations, and two of those mid show?! Madness utter madness. @sunsetblvd is like nothing you’ll ever witness @JamieLloydCo creativity on ANOTHER level. Gassed. What a job.”

Haunted by her memories and dreams, movie star Norma Desmond yearns to return to the big screen. A struggling screenwriter who can’t sell his scripts to the Hollywood studios may be her only hope, until their dangerous and compelling relationship leads to disastrous circumstances.
Drenched in champagne and cynicism, Sunset Boulevard scrutinizes the ambitions and frustrations of its characters and their intoxicating need for fame and adoration.
With a score by Andrew Lloyd Webber, Sunset Boulevard has a book and lyrics by Don Black and Christopher Hampton, based on the Billy Wilder film. The new revival opens 30 years after the original West End production.
